Where Tax, Wealth and Business Connect

I’m Suraj Randhawa, CPA, a born-and-raised Calgarian, tax professional, and business owner with more than a decade of experience in accounting, taxation, and advising privately held businesses.

I earned my Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Calgary, majoring in Accounting and minoring in Psychology. That combination has shaped how I approach professional work: I care about getting the technical answer right, but also about how people understand information, make decisions, and respond to complexity.

Much of my career has been spent helping business owners understand the financial consequences of the decisions they make: how they compensate themselves, how they structure their corporations, how they invest, how they prepare for retirement, and eventually how they transition or exit their businesses.

Over time, my interests have increasingly moved toward the intersection of tax, wealth, business ownership, and financial planning.

I am currently pursuing CFP certification and completing CPA Canada’s In-Depth Tax Program.

Areas of interest

My areas of interest include:

  • owner-manager tax planning

  • corporate investing

  • retirement and decumulation planning

  • business succession

  • estate planning

  • tax-efficient wealth accumulation

  • the financial decisions involved in building and eventually exiting a business

Through this site, I write about these topics from a practical Canadian perspective. My goal is to go beyond the rules and help readers understand how tax and financial decisions connect, and how those decisions can affect their broader financial lives.

I am based in Calgary, also work with clients in Kelowna, and work virtually with clients across Canada.

Outside of work

Outside of work, I enjoy hiking and biking throughout Alberta and British Columbia, cooking with my wife, and generally spending as much time outdoors as I can.
